Post: SQLITE_MISUSE warning
The newest Fossil Windows binaries print a SQLITE_MISUSE warning when invoking fossil without any argument. For example here is what the fossil.exe from the fossil-w64-2.28.zip download prints on the console:
C:\temp>.\fossil.exe
SQLITE_MISUSE(21): misuse at line 189778 of [557aeb4386]
Usage: .\fossil.exe COMMAND ...
or: .\fossil.exe help -- for a list of common commands
or: .\fossil.exe help COMMAND -- for help with the named command
Commands and filenames may be passed on to fossil from a file
by using:
.\fossil.exe --args FILENAME ...
Each line of the file is assumed to be a filename unless it starts
with '-' and contains a space, in which case it is assumed to be
another flag and is treated as such. --args FILENAME may be used
in conjunction with any other flags.
I am currently using Microsoft Windows 11 Version 25H2 (Build 26200.9550).
Here is an overview on the exact line from different builds:
- fossil-w32-2.28.zip:
SQLITE_MISUSE(21): misuse at line 189778 of [557aeb4386] - fossil-w32-20260801193352.zip:

Fossil versions 2.27 and older do not show this SQLITE_MISUSE warning.
Is this something purely cosmetic, or could it have an impact?

It's unexpected, in any case. It does not reproduce for me on Linux on the current trunk and the Windows build scripts are not currently working for me so no idea if it repros there. We'll look into it and get back to you.
Confirmed for both release 2.28 and latest trunk. I'll only be able to take a look later or tomorrow.
Bug fixed by check-in 76742655f00daf85.
If you don't want to build a new Fossil yourself, you can continue to use an older one as the bug is mostly harmless. Or just don't type "fossil" without any arguments.
The fix will appear in the next snapshot and/or release.
