Post: Status of wapp.tcl.tk
Hello, is the "wapp" project (wapp.tcl.tk) still ongoing? For the past couple of weeks I have not been able to reach https://wapp.tcl.tk.
Use https://wapp.tcl-lang.org/ instead. The "tcl.tk" domain is deprecated. I don't control either "tcl.tk" or "tcl-lang.org". The WAPP domain names come courtesy of the TCL/TK maintainers.
I have multiple applications that use Wapp. The most notable Wapp application is the SQLite Release Checklist. I haven't done much work on Wapp itself lately, because no works needs to be done. Wapp just works.
Why it is deprecated? Very nice name...
Why it is deprecated?
Well, it seems to have completely disappeared:
$ dnsq ns tcl.tk a.ns.tk
2 tcl.tk:
84 bytes, 1+0+1+0 records, response, authoritative, nxdomain
query: 2 tcl.tk
authority: tk 5 SOA a.ns.tk joost\056zuurbier.dot.tk 1790780683 10800 3600 604800 5
Also, according to some WHOIS information it appears to have expired at the end of 2024.
Yes, the domain has often been identified as the source of spam and other not nice activities. So it was hard to use it. Also, the registrar is, from what I hear, not reliable and very expensive. The moce to tcl-lang.org was done a long time ago but many places still use tcl.tk (I agree it was a nice name!).
@drh: the home page of https://wapp.tcl-lang.org still mentions a link (to the demo) using the tcl.tk domain name.
The tcl.tk domain became unavailable (the registry was asking significant commercial rates for renewal) but we (the Tcl language community) had long planned for this day and have been using tcl-lang.org for nearly a decade.
As for wapp itself, my experience is that it just works (I have it in production in 24x7 operation)
