Post: Fossil Dockerfile works with Windows wslc
Just a report that the stock Dockerfile builds and runs without issue using the just released Windows Subsystem for Linux Container engine (wslc). Just swap wslc for docker in the instructions.
Can I get you to try make CENGINE=wslc container-run on the latest trunk version? It's been tested under Podman and Apple Container, and while I haven't had Docker here on a dev box to test with ever since they decided they moved into $EXTRACTION phase, none of these changes should affect it as long as you're on a reasonably recent Docker Engine.
Edit reply: Fossil Dockerfile works with Windows wslc
The 🦗 made me break down and try this myself. Film at 11, but the breaking news is that Windows remains a massive PITA:
- The simple command above first fails for lack of
make. - Solve that, and then it fails for lack of a proper shell to interpret the target commands.(^
rmtemporary file, redirect noise to/dev/null, Boolean command chaining…) - Switch over to the MinGW64 shell to solve those. This will then surface build errors, now fixed on trunk.(^Those of you relying on MinGW builds should check this to see if I haven't traded one breakage for another!)
- That shell doesn't include
C:\Program Files\WSLin itsPATHeven though it is in the default systemPATH, and fixing it withexport PATH=$PATH:'/c/Program Files/WSL'feels brittle due to the space. - Having gotten this far,
make CENGINE=wslc container-runstill fails due to lack of--cap-drop.(^One optimistically expects they'll get around to adding this shortly.)
But finally, after nuking those lines from Makefile.in, yes, it does build and run the container.
Always remember, this is the easy OS. Do be assured, you will talk yourself into it eventually, despite mounting evidence of this type, and then everything will be fine. Fine, I say! 😜 Z 0ae73
