Post: Defaulting ticket wikis to Markdown

Back in 2.16 changelog:

The /wikiedit and /wikinew pages now default to markdown format.

This covered the main wikis well. But I've been using ticket wikis a lot lately, and get bitten by them (and other "associated" wikis) still defaulting to Fossil Wiki format. Is there any interest in changing this default to Markdown as well? I think it might be as straightforward as swapping x-fossil-wiki to x-markdown here:

Thanks,

Jim

With my apologies for the delay on this. If there are no objections from the other maintainers within the next few days i will make that change - it's long overdue but we don't use the ticketing system within this project enough to have been bugged (haha!) by it. Please ping this thread again to remind me if this hasn't happened within a week or so.

but we don't use the ticketing system within this project enough

Interesting! Did you switch to something else? It sounds like other projects do use it, so I'm curious why this one (which is perfect dogfooding) doesn't.

Did you switch to something else?

Since the advent of the forum, we've collectively come to prefer it for that purpose. It's simple and suits the purpose just fine for the scope of this project and its siblings.

It sounds like other projects do use it

The Tcl project does.

so I'm curious why this one (which is perfect dogfooding) doesn't.

It's just "too much" for what we need here in-house. Once in a blue moon we'll write up a ticket, but it's become a rare exception.

That makes sense. A team of humans needs to use whatever works for their dynamic. I have renewed interest in the tickets and wikis that Fossil offers as a way to manage work for my “team” of agents. Still in the POC phase, but it seems to work pretty well. Z 3

I think it might be as straightforward as swapping x-fossil-wiki to x-markdown here:

That part's for the wiki editor. That one is now changed. Tickets, it turns out, are actually already set up to do that but it's very possible that your repo has an older ticket configuration. Under /tktsetup_newpage, replace the config with the default one and it "should" default to markdown.

it seems to work pretty well.

Yes; it's a classic DB-as-job-queue case, suited to tasks where the insert and poll rates are low. Even with a fleet of clankers pounding on the repo's ticket data, the P95 of CRUD ops has to be over a second.

Also of help here is that Fossil long ago switched to the LLM lingua franca, Markdown.

That part's for the wiki editor.

Yes, I'm referring to the wiki editor. Specifically when I'm on a ticket and then select "Edit Wiki" (i.e. the ticket's wiki), it defaults to Fossil Wiki format. Verified with your latest snapshot, on a fresh repo.
